Frequently Asked Questions Regarding The GSTN1
What cameras will the GSTN1 work with?
From an audio perspective the output of the standard version of GSTN1 is designed
to feed any 'Mic' input and therefore it can be used with any camera with a Mic input.
Physically the GSTN1 was designed to fit under a PD100 or VX1000 and has locating screws
in the correct place for use with these cameras. The GSTN1 also fits correctly under the
VX2000 and Canon XM1. These are the only cameras that we know that the GSTN1 fits
under properly, however due to it's design it should be possible to fit it to the
underneath of most DVC that have a standard tripod mounting socket on them.
Does it provide Phantom Power?
No the GSTN1 does not generate phantom power. The reason is that the GSTN1
operates from just a few volts and as the normal requirement is for 48 volts for phantom
power, although it is theoretically possible to do, turning just a few volts to 48 volts
is expensive in component cost and physical space.
How Much Does It Cost and what about carriage?
The standard and VX2000 modified versions cost £256, the extra headphone jack socket
costs £18.
Carriage costs £9 in the UK, £20 to most of Europe & £35 to the USA.
Outside the EEC some Countries may charge a customs import charge, see your local customs
for information.
VAT where applicable will be charged on the above prices.
We currently only accept Sterling & also at the moment do not accept credit cards.
How long will it take to get one?
Every couple of months we make a batch of GSTN1s, the batch has normally all been sold
before we get to finish it and therefore after placing an order it is common for their to
be a wait of a couple of months before delivery.
Can I use a standard GSTN1 with an unmodified VX2000?
Yes, but their is little point. Although not the only reason, the main reason for using a
GSTN1 is to help improve the audio quality. The weakest link on a VX2000 is the initial
audio input stages of the camera, the modification done by the BBC bypasses this weak
link. Therefore if you use a standard GSTN1 on an unmodified VX2000 the high quality audio
coming out of our GSTN1 still goes through the 'weak' initial audio stages of the camera.
