Original Co Axial Commentators Equipment

GENERAL

This range of commentators equipment requires only a single 75ohm coaxial cable (up to a maximum of 500Metres) between the operating position and the commentators position. It is therefore extremely easy to install at an outside broadcast venue. All base stations are mains powered with an voltage selector for 115 / 230 volts.
Improved and extended over the years, the range now consists of the following items

GSOC4A COMMENTATORS BOX

The GSOC4A was the only commentators box that we manufactured for use with the coaxial system before our new range was released at the end of 1999. It can be used with any of our base stations. Facilities provided were originally based on an EBU recommendation.
Two commentators are provided with individual headphone feeds of 6 audio circuits. Separate rotary level controls permit each commentator to listen to each feed in either or both ears. An extra 7th feed (TALKBACK) is always fed to both ears of both commentators.
Mic inputs are optimised for headset or lip ribbons with rear panel switches. Headset connectors are 8 pin Neutricons.
Either commentator can speak to the programme output or to the co-ordination circuit output. A third input can be used for an interview mic or switched to accept a tape input.
Fitted to the rear panel are a multi-way connector for expansion as well as a guide 2 break jack (bantem) and a mix output on an XLR.
The GSOC4A is compact (235x227x91mms ) and powered via the coax cable. It is supplied in a polypropylene case.

THE GSOC4A COMMENTATORS BOX

GSOC3 BASE STATION

This is a desk top unit and can have 1-5 channels to control 1-5 GSOC4As.
Each channel has full mixing, monitoring and communication facilities. Each channel provides a programme output and a co-ord output. Individual channel return circuits can be feedback or co-ordination or both. The system is therefore able to operate with up to 2 four wire circuits per channel. An external ident signal or internal line up tone (at 2 levels) can be switched to the programme output circuit.
Common sources for all channels include 2 x international sound, 2 x guide sound and 2 x talkback. It is possible to overplug the guide sounds individually on each channel. Double innered bantam jacks are also provided on each channel for the co-ord in and out circuits as well as the main programme and feedback circuits.
A small monitoring loudspeaker is provided along with a feed to an external loudspeaker. Headphones can also be used
The overall size of a 5 channel GSOC3 is 670 x 450 x 233 mm. It is supplied in a flight case.

GSOC5 BASE STATION

This is a 3U bay mounting base station of overall depth excluding connectors of 250mms. can be supplied with 1 or 2 channels to operate with 1 or 2 GSOC4As.
Most facilities are the same as those on the GSOC3 unit. There are however one or two minor differences. Only 1x international sound and 1x talkback circuit are provided. In the European version we provide extra programme and co-ord outputs at alternative levels. Extra co-ord ringing detectors and generators are also fitted.
Monitoring on the GSOC5 is by headphones or external loudspeakers, there are no built in loudspeakers.

GSOC8 BASE STATION

The GSOC8 operates only with a single GSOC4A. It is made in a 1U subrack of overall depth excluding connectors of 245mms It has no controls and is basically designed to permit the convenience of a coaxial commentators box to be interfaced with a standard mixing desk.
Five separate transformer balanced zero level outputs are provided. These are Mics A, B & C, Co-ord A & B. The outputs appear on the co-ord circuits instead of the mic circuits when the co-ord switch is pressed on the GSOC4A.
Seven transformer balanced zero level inputs which are routed directly to the level controls on the GSOC4A.
Eight logic circuits from the GSOC4 are provided as open collectors on the GSOC8. These are mic A, mic B, mic C, tape C, co-ord A, co-ord B, call home and call technician.
Two earth loops provided on the GSOC8 turn on the ‘on air lamp’ and the ‘co-ord lamp’ of the the GSOC4A.
All inputs and outputs on the GSOC8 are on rear panel varicons.
