The GSGC5U1 is a retro fit upgrade to existing GS-GC5 codecs or an upgrade option on new units, that adds a bi-directional 2 channel digital interface.  It is a hardware upgrade and does not include any IP or recording software.

Many Glensound customers have our GS-GC5 ISDN codecs and have been using them for years.  As technology has moved on and the demand for IP solutions has increased, broadcasters have been considering 2 points:

• I would prefer a unit that offers more than just IP
• What do I do with all my existing ISDN units?

This simple upgrade means that your units' audio is paralleled to the ISDN I/O and the USB I/O, so you can operate both together if required.  It also means that your ISDN GS-GC5 is your ISDN codec and now also the hardware interface for your IP codec, keeping it simple for the operators.

How Is Audio Now Routed?

With the USB upgrade, your output programme mix is paralleled to the USB audio and the ISDN outputs.  The cue return monitor will now operate a priority system:

-        If audio is present on the ISDN return this will take priority

-        If there is no ISDN, it will take the cue audio from the USB audio input.

-        If neither of these options are present, it will take the cue audio from the front panel cue input.

What can I connect to?

With the USB audio upgrade you can now connect to other USB devices with a 2 channel input, and a 2 channel output.  Examples would be:

-        Smart phones, such as the iPhone (all versions), Samsung S3 and above, and Sony Xperia.

-        Tablets such as the iPad and the various PC based units.

-        Laptop PCs and Macs

-        Desktop PCs and Macs

What Can I Now do With The Audio On My PC or Phone?

Now you have a 24bit, 48kHz audio interface to your device, you can use the audio however you like.  Please note that no software is included with the GS-GC5U1.  Popular options include (but are not limited to):
