The DARK 22M has been one of Glensound's most requested products and it fits in quite an unusual gap. Most low channel count units have low end features. The DARK22M is the opposite. It has a low channel count but with high end specification
The DARK 22M is a bi-directional network audio interface between 2 analogue sources and either a Dante or Ravenna network. Connections are standard via 2 x XLR in and 2 x XLR out.
Network Interface
In the Dante version, the networking is via a Brooklyn 3 module. This means a 1GB network interface, so the DARK22M is comfortable on the largest networks and comfortable acting as a clock master. This is a major difference over typical low channel count units.
Inputs & Remote Control
The input is mic/line/48v switchable. The input type and gain can be controlled on the unit itself but also remotely via GlenController or any controller that can generate UDP commands (DARK22M UDP command list is available on request). Typically you would not see remote control on a low channel count unit.
Network Redundancy
The DARK 22M features 4 network connections. Two are on copper RJ45 as a primary and a secondary, and there are also 2 SFP slots to allow connections of your preference of fibre module, again with primary and secondary. Dante Controller can be set to allow operation in redundant mode, or in switched mode where the 4 ports effectively act as a hub and allow further network connections.
CLARKE Design Microphone Amplifiers
The mic amp on the DARK 22M is rather special. As the unit started as the larger DARK8MAI, we had an 8 channel ADC at our disposal, and this has been put to good use. All 8 channels are used for the ADC and this gives us about another 5dB of headroom.
USB Audio
Connecting the USB interface to a PC also allows 2 channel bi-directional audio between USB and Dante.
POWER
Power is via PoE on primary or secondary connection, a backup on a locking 4 pin 12VDC XLR, or via USB C with PD. This gives the DARK22M 4 potential power sources, with silent switching between them. Although PoE is likely to be the main source of power, if fibre links are used a locking 12VDC is often required. It is also frequently requested to have a USB C power source to enable the use of USB C power banks.
Case
The DARK22M is in Glensound's rugged style portable case with protected bumpers with mounts for under desk fixing or just cable tieing in a rack. These can be removed and the DARK22M and be rack mounted using the AOIP/RK rack kit.
